2013 Trip Reports
We took a trip on the Appalachian Trail to a beautiful overlook and an awesome rock formation at Compton Gap.
We visited Crabtree Falls, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, on July 4. This is one of the largest falls east of the Mississippi river.
We hiked a 7 mile out and back to Kepler Overlook, were we enjoyed a great view of the valley below. It was a clear day and we could easily make out Mary Rock, Stony Man Mountain, Hawksbill Mountain, and other peaks in Shenandoah National Park.
We hiked a seven and a half mile loop around the convergence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. The hike including an amazing view of Harpers Ferry from the cliffs at Loudon Heights, a walk on the Appalachian Trail through downtown Harpers Ferry, part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park, and walks across two bridges and a railroad bridge with lots of traffic.
We hiked most of the Merryman Mill Trail along the shore of the Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County, Maryland, on a fairly warm yet wet and foggy January day. We went about 3/4 of the length of the trail, and decided to return on another day with GPS to properly map and document the trail.
