7/12/11 Washburn and Glacier Points
Yosemite National Park
Yosemite, CA
OK, so Glacier Point isn't really a hike. It's just the most amazing, incredible, outstanding view you will ever see. Period. There is a short walk from the parking area over some rock and a paved trail to the main viewing area, so that's the hike portion of this hike.
At Glacier Point you stand at 7,200' above sea level and almost 4,000' above the Yosemite Valley floor. Did I mention the views from here are amazing? They are.
On the road to Glacier Point, you first come to Washburn Point. Washburn Point gives you your first clear view of the Half Dome and Clouds Rest beyond. It's an "Oh my God" moment. Washburn Point is considered a hike hear because there is a stone staircase to hike down to the viewing area. From Washburn Point you can look across the valley and see and hear Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, and Illilouette Falls. You can't see Yosemite Falls, but these are enough for now.
